MATES MEET IN MAROOCHYDORE

I read on "Whiteangel's" blog "Thoughts and Happenings" that she was on holiday on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. She and hubby had driven all the way from Tasmania. As it is only an hour and a half drive from Brisbane we arranged to meet. TOH and I drove up to Maroochydore last week and met the lovely couple. We have been blog mates for about eight years so it was fun to meet in person.

We had lunch together and then we went for a walk by the Maroochy River.

It was  a warm but windy day.

Outside the resort where we stayed there was a lady feeding the lorikeets. Apparently she is a resident and does this every afternoon and cleans up the table before she leaves.

Unfortunately some one has complained about her and she has been asked to stop feeding the birds. (the reason being is that they are wild and shouldn't become dependent on humans to feed them.)

"Clover" the white  egret (I think) also came for some hand outs.

That evening we had dinner with our new friends and we stayed overnight at the same resort. It was a lovely few days on the coast and great to meet another blogger.

  3. How lovely to meet another blog buddy!!! I love the lorikeets but understand why they would not want her to feed them. The egret is amazing as well and what lovely weather you had!

  4. How lovely meeting up with another blogging buddy. Meeting up with you and OH in Washington DC is a great memory. It is sad that dear lady has been told not to feed her lorikeets any more. I understand the concerns but it is still sad. It obviously brings her great joy.

  5. It’s wonderful to meet a fellow blogger in person.I’ve done it twice, once on home territory and, last year a NZ blogger and I (Lanzarote) met in Spain! We were on holiday and he was doing the Santaigo pilgrimage trail. We too had a great day. Those lorikeets are so colourful and I’m not sure I understand the reason for prohibiting the feeding, Don’t we all feed wild birds?

  6. That's so nice to meet blogfriends in real !! I have met a few. You have the impression that you know them for a long time although you have never seen them "life". What a pity that this lady is not allowed to feed these beautiful and colorful birds anymore !

  7. Happy times Diane.. it is a wee bit tricky I guess, I feed my wildbirds including the lorikeets, but I've started now doing it every other day, so they have to find it for themselves too.

  8. I always love to hear when blog friends meet. It's such a warm community and so lovely when the 'virtual' friendships become real.

  9. i loved seeing the photos of this older lady feeding the lorikeets. Was so sorry to hear that they asked her to stop as it was probably one of the main pleasures of her life. So fun that you met your long time blog mate.

  10. Hi Diane, I just love the Lorikeets. I can understand why they do not want them fed.. But, she must be sad having to stop. I am glad you had a nice visit with your blogger friend. Sounds like a great place to meet. Have a happy new week!

  12. Gosh, you couldn't have picked a lovelier place to meet up! What a fun thing. I am in awe of the number of lorikeets on that table ... They are so exotic ( to me) and colorful. Not a good thing to tame wild birds I guess, although we all seem to put out feeders .

  13. Good for you to meet up with an Aussie blogger from Tasmania. I have sometimes had a look at her blog.
Funny that the lady in the photo feeding the lorikeets, gave me a "double take". She is the spitting imagine of my grandmother, my Dad's side.
As for the feeding of the lorikeets, they are wild birds and shouldn't be encouraged to be feed, it is after all the law. However, small as the gesture and the pleasure for the dear old lady, it is more than likely that the complaint to the authorities was not so much the feeding but the bloody screeching noise that these lorikeets make. I guess it was the noise factor.
We had them here when the bottle brush tree flowered - at the crack of dawn - 50 of these getting the nectar from the flowers, was a bit much.
Now no more lorikeets - the Mynas have driven them plus all other native birds away!!! A real pity.
Maroochydore and the Sunshine coast to me - is just like heaven - The best place on this planet.
    Cheers and well photographed.

  15. Experiencing those beautiful birds close up must be a wonderful experience. I am sure it is one of the highlights of that sweet lady's day and too bad it's not in the birds' best interest.
How wonderful that you could meet and spend time with Whiteangel. I am a regular reader of her blog, too. I wish Minnesota wasn't so far off the tourist path as I would love to meet more of my bloggy friends as well.

  19. We have also been lucky enough to meet some blog friends over the years and even if some we will not met again or even sporadically, it is always fun. Looks like you all had a great time in a beautiful place.

  20. How fun to meet a blog friend! The internet is an amazing thing. When I stop blogging for a time, (like recently), because I just get too much on my plate, and then go back, it's like catching up with old friends I've feel I've known forever. So fun! The lorikeets are beautiful...talk about photogenic!!! Hope all is well on your side of the world!
